NUDGEE BEACH MARINE COMPLEX PROPOSAL |
|
The Nudgee Beach Boat Ramp off Nudgee Road (Kedron Brook) has become a very popular location for local boat owners.
Unfortunately the area is suffering growing pains, with the car-park often full during good weather and peak fishing times for Winter Whiting, Sand Crabs and Banana Prawns. As the ramp is isolated (especially at night time), there have been problems with vehicles being broken into, vandalism and hooning.
Additionally, as house lot sizes in Brisbane are becoming smaller and more people are moving into residential units, many people who would like to have a trailer boat don’t have a place to store them,
One solution may be to open up an area to the south of the existing ramp, to allow a commercial operator to offer secure casual trailer parking and boat storage, with the possibility of a boat chandlery and fishing/bait retail business. A caretaker could live on site to provide extra security for the whole area.
There are many environmental and infrastructure issues that Council would need to consider before pursuing this proposal to an EOI stage to try to attract a commercial bid.
Before I take any formal steps with Council to consider this proposal, I’m keen to receive feedback from boat ramp users and any local residents who have an interest in this area.
Please send me an e-mail or visit me at the Ward Office if you have any suggestions regarding this proposal. Below is a map of the proposed area under consideration.
