NUNDAH AND TOOMBUL

The name Nundah, is the Aboriginal name for ‘chain of waterholes’ (Kedron Brook and low lying area near Nundah Historical Cemetery on Hedley Avenue).

Toombul is no longer a suburb, just a place name.  It was originally the area to the east of Sandgate Rd from Buckland Rd to Kedron Brook.  Toombul is an Aboriginal word meaning place of Hoop Pines.

The area around Walkers Way Nundah (formerly Toombul) was Queensland’s first European free settlement (1838).
