Downfall Creek starts its journey to the sea from the Brisbane suburb of McDowall. From there it meanders through Stafford Heights, Chermside, Wavell Heights and Virginia. From where it meets the Zillman Waterholes at Banyo, its name changes to Nundah Creek.
It crosses under the Gateway Motorway and forms one of the beautiful mangrove lined creeks of the Boondall Wetlands.
A birdhide has been built on the creek, not far from the Boondall Wetlands Visitors Centre.
The Downfall Creek Bushland Centre in Raven St Reserve (815 Rode Rd, McDowall) is a Brisbane City Council bushland reserve of 23.4 ha. A picnic area which is floodlit at night, has all facilities, including free barbecues.
Walking trails allow visitors to experience natural woodland slopes with heath and grass understory broken here and there by fern gullies. A self-guiding walk leaflet can be picked up at the Centre during open hours of, 8.30am - 4.30pm week days, 1pm - 4pm Saturdays and 10am - 1pm on Sundays. Audio visual material for visitors and community groups is wheelchair accessible, as is a senses trail nearby.
Staff at the community education centre conduct a range of volunteer, recreation and education programs. A recreation program, BUSHLINK, provides a diverse range of passive nature based activities and in holiday periods, regular guided walks are conducted by trained volunteers.
