Nundah SCIP Update

WITH traffic now using the Sandgate Rd bypass, Nundah's planned Suburban Centre Improvement Project (SCIP) is vital for the shopping centre's future.
The extensive community consultation to design the SCIP is coming to a close.

$2.5m project

The community reference group has been very busy thrashing out the issues to come up with a 'best possible value' plan for the $2.5m project.
Artwork, public spaces, safer pedestrian crossing points, street trees, kerb widening, welcoming entry points, street parking and pavement

treatments feature in the plan.  The village atmosphere created will attract kerbside dining,  a friendly shopping experience and plenty of places for people to feel comfortable.
Cr Kim Flesser was pleased with the community response for SCIP ideas. "Nundah residents have shown the highest level of interest for their SCIP, compared to any other in Brisbane.  With such enthusiasm, Nundah is sure to be Brisbane's best example of urban shopping centre revival," he said.

Development plans

Property developers have now gone beyond just showing interest in the centre.  A  planning application has been approved to develop a new medical centre on the corner of Sandgate Rd and Bage St.  The centre will also feature a restaurant and specialty shopping.
Many other applications are expected in the near future.

Start date

This SCIP is easily the largest yet attempted by the Council.  The planned start for the physical improvements is April, with completion hopefully by October.
Up to date plans for the SCIP are available on the Northgate Ward web site at www.northgateward.org, or contact Cr Kim Flesser on 34032210.

Both the local community and business owners have shown a great deal of interest in designing the Nundah SCIP.  Over 600 submissions were received from the initial consultation paper.
